The four books in Sandra Jackson’s series are unique. I have read and reviewed them all. As far as her gardening, I wish we lived closer to share ideas. My small plot would look a whole lot better.

Please, introduce yourself. Tell us about your personal life, family, education.

Hi, my name is Sandra J. Jackson, and I live in a rural area of Eastern Ontario, Canada. I am happily married to my husband of 29 years, and we have two wonderful adult children. We have a female dog named Bailey and two cats named Sophie and Ivy.

Growing up, I was always creative. I drew on walls, and doodled in books. So, naturally I studied Graphic Design in college. But by the time I graduated, computers took over. I worked for a little while in pre-press for a local newspaper but was laid off due to lack of work. A few years later, I ended up as an administrative assistant for a business services company. I ended up learning some accounting skills, took a few online courses and now I am a financial assistant for a non-profit organization. As a creative, writing was just one more way to express my creative side.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

Spare time? I never feel like there are enough hours in the day. When I’m done working at my full-time job, I then work at my writing and all its components. But when I’m not doing any of that, you can find me working in the garden I built in 2019. I used the stone walls from the old barn that once stood on our property as the back drop for my English garden. I built walkways and different garden areas. And when I say “I built,” I really mean I did 95% of the work (I enlisted my husband and son to help remove some of the large boulders I encountered). I ended up overworking my shoulder so now I have tendinosis and tendonitis which acts up from time to time, but it was worth it. Now I have a place to sit and relax. I also enjoy photography, hiking and kayaking.

A Writer and a Reader

If you are a writer, are you an avid reader?

Yes, I am an avid reader. I can’t read for extended periods like I used to, but I enjoy it whenever I can, which is usually right before bed.

What is your ultimate writing goal as you see it today?

I think for me completing novels is always my main goal, buy I would like to have at least one best-seller under my belt. Someday!

How do you decide on the title of a book?

So far, the titles of my four published works come from the last words in the novel. I always seem to come up with the ending before I work out the beginning, so the title is one of the first things I know about my story.

Do you remember the first book you read?

I remember reading a lot as a kid, but I don’t remember any specific first book. I do remember that I loved reading the Nancy Drew Series. Judy Blume’s books are also ones I enjoyed. There are two books, though that really stand out in my memory and that is The Diary of Anne Frank and The Elephant Man.

Is there an author, past or present, you would love to meet? Why?

I would like to meet either Diana Gabaldon or J. K. Rowling. Both of those authors and their stories inspired me to write.
